A multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) is a legally binding agreement between three or more states relating to the environment. They are predominantly produced by the United Nations. It is called a bilateral environmental agreement if the agreement is between two nation states. ==History== The vast majority of MEAs have been produced since the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (better known as the Stockholm Conference) in 1972.
